PFAC Palawan Buddhist Family and Friends Annual Reunion 2023

Buddhist Family and friends organize this reunion annually. The venue varies each year. This year we held it in Toronto, Canada. Participants are from all over the world who used to live in PFAC Palawan or the VRC. This year we had people from Norway, Sweden, France, Montreal, Toronto, Texas, California, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. Here are some of our pictures. A Big Tribute to Sister Tomasa Rivera, O.P.

SISTER TOMASA RIVERA, O.P.
It is with great sorrow that we announce to you the passing of our dearly beloved Sister Tomasa Rivera, O.P. 

Sister Tomasa served as the School Principal of the HTC-PFAC School for Children from June 1979 to December 1995. Her immense love for the Vietnamese refugees and dedicated service had remarkably inspired the locals and international volunteers in the camp, including the HTC-PFAC Teachers and Staff.

We are deeply saddened by her passing; on the other hand, we are joyful that she has now joined her creator in heaven and forever in peace. Sister Tomasa had lived a life so beautifully lived and deserves to be remembered as a person with a huge heart for the Vietnamese refugees.

A part of who we are today is because of the HTC-PFAC School for Children, Sister Tomasa, and the teachers and staff of the school, who served the camp from 1979-95.

BIG THANK YOU TO YOU, SISTER TOMASA on behalf of the Vietnamese refugees, especially the children, who once lived in PFAC Palawan, Philippines.  May you rest in PEACE

Where Are They Now?

HTC-PFAC Drum and Lyre Corps

The HTC-PFAC Drum and Lyre Corps was founded by Mr. Sammy Taylor in PFAC Palawan. Its purpose was to bring out the hidden talents of Vietnamese refugee youths and encourage them to showcase their musical skills and inspire other young people like them to do the same. 

Members of the band were from the different HTC-PFAC classes. They were volunteers who wanted to share their love for music and entertainment. The band played to the delight of PFAC Palawan from 1986 to 1992. They also participated in Puerto Princesa City anniversary parade and in other important festivities organized by WESCOM. 

With Sammy are UNHCR Head- Jan Top Christensen, Miss HTC School Ngoc Diem, and HTC-PFAC School Executive Director- Sister Bernadette Hizon.
